The living room and kitchen of this charming cottage face south. The exposure is warm and sunny but there was a hill and no space to entertain. The clients requested roses and flat space to cook outside and have Easter egg hunts with their grandchildren.

The solution was the terracing of the garden. The first terrace, accessed directly from the living room and kitchen, is generous, doubling their entertaining area by including the garden. Outdoor cocktail parties and dinners are regular events in this glorious spot.

A third terrace is a broad swath of grass surrounded by an abundant perennial border. Roses abound here concealing the occasional forgotten Easter Egg.

This French limestone fountain draws the eye to the back of the garden, expanding ones grasp of the space and drawing the visitor out from the house.

A second terrace is used as the outdoor kitchen, where feasts are created on the grill. A blue stone slab serves as the counter and wysteria, growing on the new lattice, softens the space.
